SA Electricity Monitor guidelines
The SA Electricity Monitor promotes sustainable use of energy. To save 20%-40% on your electricity bill, they suggest that you start measuring your electricity consumption with electricity monitors and make modifications to your consumption. In the long run, this will also help prevent winter blackouts.
Many areas in South Africa have suffered from more electricity blackouts since the load-shedding in 2007 and 2008. It is clear that Eskom is not able to meet the high demand for electricity. When cold weather closes in, so does higher electricity demand due to electrical heaters and warming devices, which means more electricity blackouts if we don’t do something about our electricity usage. Even if electricity blackouts are not affecting you directly, the new prices definitely will. The increases announced in February 2010 will total 75.8% from 2010 to 2013. By measuring it, you can manage it and start saving.
