Cooking oil recycling
Used cooking oil is taken by Makana Meadery where research is being conducted on biofuels, and used oil is converted into biodiesel. This is being piloted on several diesel vehicles in the area, and is also used at Rhodes University for running lawnmowers and other diesel-powered units. You can read more about this in an excellent article on the biofuels economy, and find out how fields such as biodiesel, bioethanol and biomass differ vastly, appearing in Science in Africa: "Biofuels - to make them relevant, we need to learn from a partially pink elephant".
