Rhodes Legal Activism Environment
The Environmental Portfolio of the Rhodes Legal Activism Society was set up to create an awareness of environmental law and its implications for communities. It is open to staff and students, providing information and education about legal rights and responsibilities pertaining to environmental concerns. The RLA Environmental Portfolio plans to kick off by examining the proposed hydraulic fracturing gas exploration project in the Karoo, interrogate sustainability of the fisheries industry, and address concerns regarding water, sanitation and other environmental issues affecting the poorest sectors and also the broader Grahamstown community. The plan is to canvass these issues in a manual for future students to develop and work with.
RLA Environmental Portfolio activities will include educational workshops and other awareness-raising events in the community.
