Environmental science is an innovative and multi-disciplinary field of study that combines socio-economic and ecological perspectives to analyse and address environmental problems. Environmental Science at Rhodes University is a two-year major as part of Bachelor degrees in Science, Humanities, Commerce, Law or Journalism, and have a significant fieldwork component and a strong practical focus. Graduates will be equipped to solve 'real life' environmental problems in developing countries, drawing on a sound scientific understanding. The department has a multi-disciplinary Honours degree, as well as offering a joint Honours in Biodiversity & Conservation with the Botany Department. The department is internationally recognised, having contributed to major international studies such as the Millennium Ecosystem Assessments, and has a significant postgraduate group undertaking applied and theoretical research on a host of environmental challenges.
