Ichthyology and Fisheries Science

The Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science at Rhodes University, in partnership with the South African Institute of Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB), a Research Facility of the National Research Foundation and Associated Institute of Rhodes University, is the only large fish research centre in Africa. Courses offered include: Ichthyology II which covers all fundamental aspects of fish biology; and Ichthyology III which covers quantitative ecology, limnology, fisheries management, conservation, small scale and recreational fisheries, behaviour genetics and aquaculture. Postgraduates can continue their studies in ichthyology, resource management and aquaculture by reading BSc Honours, MSc and Phd degrees.
