The Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University runs courses where students produce a large volume of media on the environment. Two members of staff have a background in science, and JMS has on occasion contracted the teaching services of well-known freelance environmental journalist, Leonie Joubert, author of 'Boiling Point, and 'Scorched'. JMS runs a newspaper during SciFest entitled SciCue, which makes science accessible to children, and a website of short films entitled SciTV.
