International Youth Day
12 August
International Youth Day, designated by the United Nations in 1999, is celebrated every year on August 12 (it is not associated with the Catholic Church event, 'World Youth Day'). The purpose of this day is to focus on youth concerns everywhere in the world, including environmental concerns. For example, 2002 focussed on "Now and for the Future: Youth Action for Sustainable Development", 2008 drew attention to "Youth and Climate Change: Time for Action", and 2009 focussed on "Sustainability: our challenge, our future."
