March
Below we provide a list of environmental dates at-a-glance. While observation of an issue on a given date may not immediately address a problem, it can help raise the profile of environmental concerns and increase awareness. It is important to consider the environmental impact of social, political and economic issues every day - not just once a year - and take appropriate actions.
- Meatout Day: reduce our carbon footprint through our diet.
- Human Rights Day / International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination: human rights bring human responsibilities.
- RU Green Fund Run: a fun run/walk with a serious aim, to raise funds for Rhodes University's Green Fund, to support initiatives that promote sustainability.
- Scifest Africa: annual science festival in Grahamstown.
- Water Week: South Africa is a water-challenged country.
- World Water Day: water is life.
- World Meteorological Day: global weather patterns often reflect human impacts.
- Earth Hour: turn off the power for an hour in a call for political commitment.
