International Day of the Donkey
7 May

Join Donkey Power in celebrating more than six millenia of help to humans by the humble donkey. The first animal to be used for transport was the donkey. When that happened, human communications were transformed. Writing was invented to record the movement of goods, but goods did not move in large volumes until donkeys were there to carry them. This pushed humans into organizing themselves into states and civilizations. This may not have been the best thing, just as agriculture was not necessarily the best thing, but it pushed human societies into new ways of life.
