International Coastal Cleanup Day

International Coastal Clean-up Day urges countries around the world to clean up their act. The event, organised by Ocean Conservancy, generates a Marine Debris Index, which provides a country-by-country, state-by-state breakdown of litter and other pollution in our oceans, lakes, rivers and streams. The findings have informed important legislative changes and inspired improvements in packaging and greater efforts among communities to recycle their waste. The reports also provide information about the far-reacing impacts of marine pollution on wildlife and ocean ecosystems. Marine debris has also been found to compromise the ocean's ability to adapt to climate change.
