Grahamstown organisations and resources
relating to environmental sustainability
Various organisations in Grahamstown / Rhini, in the Makana district of the Eastern Cape, promote environmental sustainability. Some are civic engagement groups, or non-profit organisations or NGOs, working in collaboration with Rhodes University and/or Makana Municipality. A number of Rhodes University student groups are actively engaged with them in making a difference on campus and in the community - read about their efforts in our ACTION pages!
Local environmental efforts range from promoting waterwise gardening, healthy river catchments, and conserving biodiversity, to changing lifestyles, reducing consumption of resources, and supporting local socio-economic development in a sustainable manner.
