Kowie Catchment Campaign
The Kowie Catchment Campaign (KCC) is a community environmental initiative, formed under the auspices of the Makana Environmental Forum in 2003 - the International Year of Freshwater. Led by volunteers, the KCC aims to promote better care for the health of the local Kowie River / iQoyi catchment and streams - dry or flowing. The KCC recognises that social, economic and political decisions influence the state of the environment and thus the health and wellbeing of the community. Citizens have rights and responsibilities, and should play a role in keeping each other accountable. By fostering strong civic engagement and leadership within the community and municipality, the KCC hopes to find sustainable solutions together, thus serving the interests of the broader community.
