Commerce
The South African business sector has an ever-increasing demand for professionals - highly skilled, analytical individuals who can lead as well as interact in a team; individuals with a wide range of skills which will take the South African economy to a higher level. The Commerce Extended Studies programme lays the foundation for this kind of training.

Many school leavers who have the potential to succeed at university have had an inadequate secondary school education. This has left them ill-equipped for the challenges of university studies. The Commerce programme is a one year full-time course, which enables successful students to complete their BCom degree within four years: one year longer than the minimum time.
In the first year of study students take Accounting, Theory of Finance, Computer Skills, English and Business Skills, all of which are year courses. In the second semester, students take Economics 1. To learn more about the courses offered in the programme, please follow the links below Commerce at the top of this page.
The Commerce Extended Studies programme was fortunate to have donations from various businesses from its inception to the present. Investec Social Investment is committed to supporting projects that facilitate access to tertiary education; improve the performance and pass rate of university students. As such, Investec has partnered with Rhodes University and currently provides funding for the Commerce Extended Studies Programme. 45 students from under-resourced schools benefit from this partnership. GBS Mutual Bank donates money annually to support Grahamstown students.
