Extract:

Homeless and a wanderer, Eldrich roams widely across South Africa, always walking. He experiences the world very differently from what might tentatively be called the norm; he experiences real or imagined historical events with a visceral immediacy in the different places through which he passes. Besides these ‘historical’ events, he experiences the landscape as a living entity or as a place containing living entities; so that a mountain or a river or a tree has a character, a genius loci, that he is able to see. The animate and inanimate worlds, for Eldrich, are thus imbued with agency. He wanders through the these landscapes, living in the open, eating what presents itself or not at all, keeping company with the beings who people his inner and outer wilderness.
