2013
Warden Welcome
"It is my pleasure to welcome you to Cory House, in Founders Hall. We are a small residence of 35 male students that has a long and proud history. It has an advantage of being centrally located on campus. It is opposite the Bantu Stephen Biko Student Union building and is in short walking distance from the library, lecture venues and the university sports facilities and fields.
Cory House has always aimed to reflect the Founders Hall motto that the university's founders indeed 'founded well'. One of the residence's key traditions is to produce 'the Founders Hall Gentlemen'. Traditionally, this has translated into producing a significant amount of recognised leaders, including past Rhodes SRC Presidents. We have, therefore, informally come to adopt the belief that Cory House is where 'leaders live'. As a small residence, we value respect, friendship and brotherhood, the attainment of academic excellence and enjoyment of extramural activities such as community engagement and sports. Cory conducts most of its sports activities in a joint team with Mathews House, producing Cory-Mathews teams that have a proud history of excellence in sports events at Rhodes University.
In achieving its values, members of Cory House proudly identify themselves the 'Cory Rangers'. Best wishes for the year ahead as you join Cory House.
