BASIC FEMINISMS READING LIST
This reading list is meant to be an evolving document that provides a starting point to reading about and debating feminisms. By reading you may find work that articulates what it is you are feeling, or expands your understanding or awareness of the way the world around you is organised – particularly in relation to the way genders are constructed.
Please read it, make copies, add to it, and pass it on. By having knowledge we empower ourselves and can begin to address those concerns that are most central to us.
This is by no means a comprehensive reading list, just a starting point – an initial guide. It covers things like theories of feminisms, but also other areas of concern that feminists have applied their minds to and a list of some of the all time classics in feminist fiction.
The section for the 2000s is growing and we look forward to the lists on-going expansion! Add readings and reviews that are significant to you and then pass it on. Call numbers are provided for some of the texts that are available in the library.
At some point it would also be nice to compile a poetry list / collection if anyone is keen to undertake that.
Thank you to all those who have helped compile this list and nurtured its growth.
If you have any contributions to make to the list please add them and then email the new list to either c.tsampiras@ru.ac.za or l.klazinga@ru.ac.za, or just email us the new readings and we will add them when the list is next updated.
Aluta continua!
