New postdoc in the Department of Geology

The department warmly welcomes our new postdoctoral research fellow, Dr Mehrnaz Siahi.

Mehrnaz completed her BSc and MSc degrees in Geology and sedimentology at the Tarbiat Moalem University of Tehran (Iran). In her MSc project she studied the sedimentology, petrography and sequence stratigraphy of hydrocarbon-bearing Cretaceous carbonate rocks in the south-western part of Iran. She then spent 5 years in the exploration industry working for Iranian national oil and coal companies and also as a lecturer at the University of Jame Elmi Karbordi in Iran. In 2017 she earned a PhD in geochemistry from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (Germany), working on the sedimentology, trace element and isotope geochemistry of the Mesoarchaean stromatolitic carbonates of the Pongola Supergroup in South Africa. This work was followed by postdoctoral research projects on Precambrian carbonate and BIF at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and University of Ferdowsi Mashhad (Iran). She joined PRIMOR at Rhodes University in September 2018 and continues research in a broad range of fields related to the chemical composition of the ocean and atmosphere in the Archaean and Proterozoic, subjects on which she extensively has published with her co-workers from the University of Johannesburg, Pretoria and various places overseas.
