Shell Lecture Series

In 2012 the Geology Department at Rhodes University started the Shell Lecture Series in South Africa with a workshop on applied biostratigraphy. This year a course on basin analysis and seismic interpretation will follow, aiming to establish the Shell Lecture Series as a recurring event at Rhodes University. The courses are presented by Prof Annette E. Götz in collaboration with Shell, covering various topics of hydrocarbons and/or mining exploration and production.
Shell Lecture Series Workshop 2013
In 2013 the Lecture Series presents a three days workshop on Basin Analysis and Seismic Interpretation Technologies from 12-14 June 2013. The course content aims at postgraduate students, academics new to the field, and industry geologists. Presenters are Dr Manuel Poupon (Shell) and Prof Annette E. Götz (Rhodes University). For further information and registration please contact the course organiser (a.gotz@ru.ac.za).
Shell Lecture Series Workshop 2012
The first workshop in the Shell Lecture Series was a workshop on Applied Biostratigraphy in Exploration and Production from 12-16 November 2012. Researchers and students from six South African universities, and industry representatives from South Africa, Namibia and Australia attended the one week course. Presenters were Dr Katrin Ruckwied and Dr Iain M. Prince (Shell), and Prof Annette E. Götz (Rhodes University).
A short retrospect of the 2012 workshop has been published by the Palynological Society in the AASP Newsletter (Vol. 45/4). Further information on future biostratigraphy workshops at Rhodes University can be requested from the course organiser (a.gotz@ru.ac.za).
