In terms of the Higher Education Act (Act 101 of  1997) Rhodes is a public higher education institution. The qualifications offered by Rhodes are approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training for subsidy purposes, accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council on Higher Education (HEQC of the CHE) and registered on the National Qualifications Framework.
