HKE at the PE Ironman

Date Released: Thu, 6 April 2017 08:27 +0200

On Sunday 2 April 2017 a group of sixteen third-year and postgraduate students represented the HKE Department at the Ironman event in Port Elizabeth. The HKE students joined a team of over 50 volunteers as massage therapists for the athletes as they finished the ultra endurance triathlon challenge. The enthusiastic group was taken through a short massage course before attending to the hundreds of athletes who crossed the finish line and moved into the massage tent to relax their weary legs. The students considered this a fantastic and worthwhile experience as it allowed them to build on their knowledge of the anatomy of the lower extremities, as well as learn some valuable sports massage techniques.
