HKE PhD student Ben Ryan and HKE lecturer Dr Jonathan Davy recently attended the media launch of the Khulasande Sports Development in Port Elizabeth.
The vision of Thobela Mathemba Thoba, the founder and director of this project, is to develop 40 underprivileged students, between the ages of 8 and 12 from Enkwenkwezini Primary School (Motherwell, PE) and Fikizolo Primary (Grahamstown), and who have the ability and potential, to build a tangible future and career in athletics.
Thobela's aim is to provide these children with the the best resources and facilities to develop their natural athletic ability, giving the learners access to Dieticians, Sports Psychologists, Sports Coaches and Life Skills Coaches, as well as providing them with academic tutors through its Academic Excellence Program. The Rhodes University Human Kinetics and Ergonomics Department is proud to
be associated with the Khulasande project by providing expertise on strength and conditioning and fitness assessment.
