Associate Professor Candice Christie

Date Released: Tue, 29 September 2015 08:21 +0200

Dr Candice Christie, now Associate Professor in the Department of Human Kinetics and Ergonomics, received news of her promotion on 22 September 2015. Elated, she paid tribute to her colleagues past and present in the HKE department for the role they have played in her career, as well as to her family: husband Warren Henry and sons Ross and Caleb.

Professor Christie has been a Senior Lecturer in the department since 2006, and took up the administrative role of Head of Department in 2012, a position she currently holds. An NRF Y2-rated researcher, Candice has 28 peer-reviewed publications to her name thus far in her academic career, 51 papaers published in conference proceedings, and has successfully graduated 11 MSc graduates and 1 PhD (to date). Ten years ago Professor Christie identified a gap in the research and has focused on intermittent sport, particularly cricket, a move which has generated exciting and world-leading research from Rhodes' HKE department, and has led to Professor Christie's invitation to sit on the Research Committee of Cricket South Africa. Apart from her teaching and research, she is the editor in chief of Ergonomics South Africa, Africa's foremost peer-reviewed journal focussing on ergonomics studies, and she is frequently called upon to be an external examiner for postgraduate theses both nationally and internationally.

Congratulations once again, Professor Christie, and we wish you well!
