Probation requirements are outlined in the contract of employment. As a new staff member you will receive a letter notifying you of the probation process and requirements.
Academic leave is usually only approved after a period of three years at the institution. Personal promotion is usually applied for after confirmation of appointment, following probation but can be applied for after one year of employment. Many staff on probation and who are applying for promotion, prepare one teaching portfolio for both processes. Please note however that the requirements for the portfolio for promotion are different to those for probation. Put differently, an assessment of the portfolio for probation cannot be used for promotion purposes, the portfolio will need to be re-assessed. However, a promotion portfolio can be used for probation purposes
