HR Strategic Projects
This website will be updated twice a year to reflect the strategic projects that HR is working on. A number of these projects will span more than one year given the strategic nature of the project and the time taken for implementation.
As at 1 January 2013, current projects include:
Remuneration
- ONGOING work on the remuneration policy for staff
- ONGOING review of HOD allowances
- UPDATED protocol for merit awards for academic staff
- Completed REVIEW of scarcity allowances paid to support staff
- UPCOMING review of merit awards processes for support staff
Policy Reviews and Development
- REVIEW of Personal Promotion Policy and Procedures but more work to be done in 2013
- UPCOMING new policy on Incapacity ill health and poor work performance (this will incorporate current Ill-health policy)
- ONGOING REVIEW of Recruitment and Selection policies
- UPCOMING NEW Probation Policy
- UPCOMING new HOD review and support protocol
- UPCOMING new Protocol for Alcohol and Drug Use and Abuse at Work
- COMPLETED review of Job Evaluation Policy
- COMPLETED HOD academic leave protocol
Staff Engagement Programmes and Initiatives
- NEW management development programme being piloted
- ONGOING development on staff engagement programmes related to development and feedback
- ONGOING ROLL-OUT of Policy to Eradicate Unfair Discrimination and Harassment
- ONGOING new staff institutional culture survey. This will be done in conjunction with the Director: Equity and Institutional Culture
- COMPLETED new Staff induction and orientation programme (recognising that CHERTL already runs an excellent Lecturers Orientation Programme)
- COMPLETED staff exit process
- COMPLETED exit interview process
- COMPLETED new wellness programme
Job Evaluation
- ONGOING review of grades 1 to 5 posts
Systems Development and Data Integrity
- ONGOING roll-out of the HR intranet (this is largely drive by the M&C Division)
- ONGOING REVISED HoD Guide which is electronically based
- NEW review of types of academic staff
- COMPLETED new entities framework for analysis and comparison of various entities
- COMPLETED roll-out of the employee self-service on the HR Information systems
- COMPLETED guide for Chairperson of disciplinary appeal processes
- COMPLETED guide for staff facing disciplinary action
Unions
- ONGOING REVIEW of recognition agreement with NEHAWU (at the union’s request)
- ONGOING CONSIDERATION of moving to an agency shop agreement (at NTEU’s request)
