HR Strategic Projects
This website will be updated twice a year to reflect the strategic projects that HR is working on. A number of these projects will span more than one year given the strategic nature of the project and the time taken for implementation.
Current projects include:
Remuneration
- NEW Protocol for repayment of overpayments to staff
- ONGOING work on the remuneration policy for staff
- REVIEW of scarcity allowances paid to support staff
- REVIEW of merit awards processes for support staff
- REVIEW of HOD allowances
Policy Reviews and Development
- NEW policy on Incapacity ill health and poor work performance (this will incorporate current Ill-health policy)
- REVIEW of Recruitment and Selection policies
- NEW Probation Policy
Staff Engagement Programmes and Initiatives
- NEW Staff induction and orientation programme (recognising that CHERTL already runs an excellent Lecturers Orientation Programme)
- REVIEW of Staff Exit Process
- ROLL-OUT of Policy to Eradicate Unfair Discrimination and Harassment
- NEW staff institutional culture survey. This will be done in conjunction with the Director: Equity and Institutional Culture
- NEW development on staff engagement programmes related to development and feedback
Job Evaluation
- NEW review of grades 1 to 5 posts
Systems Development and Data Integrity
- Together with Data Management Unit, ROLL-OUT of the employee self-service on the HR Information system
- Working together with the Marketing and Communications Division as regards the ROLL-OUT of the HR intranet (this is largely drive by the M&C Division)
- Working together with the WebUnit and the Marketing and Communications Division as regards the REVISED HoD Guide which will be electronically based
- NEW development of Employment Equity information on the HR website. Developments can be seen at: http://www.ru.ac.za/humanresources/policiesandinfo/employmentequity/
- ONGOING work to update and ensure accuracy of staff data
- NEW development of staff development module of the HR information system
- NEW Exit Protocol to formalise staff leaving the institution (including retirement)
- NEW review of types of academic staff
- NEW entities framework for analysis and comparison of various entitities
Unions
- REVIEW of recognition agreement with NEHAWU (at the union’s request)
- CONSIDERATION of moving to an agency shop agreement (at NTEU’s request)
