Shutdown Leave
The dates of when the institution closes before Christmas and when it re-opens after New Year is determined by Management after consultation with the unions. The average shutdown days will be 8 or 9 days. In determining the shutdown period, consideration is given to the safety of staff, specifically travelling just before a weekend and after a public holiday. By the end of January of each year, the dates for the shutdown for that year are determined.
