Research at the Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science
Research at DIFS extends from freshwater ponds to the open ocean with a primary emphasis on fish resources. DIFS research is based in three research lines:
- Aquaculture which involves both the study and practice of fish farming.
- Fisheries Science which study of human impact on fish populations.

DIFS emphasizes interdisciplinary research that brings perspectives from a variety of disciplines to the search for new knowledge and for solutions to issue-driven questions. Teams of scientists with diverse expertise work in areas such as plankton and nutrient dynamics, shoreline and wetlands processes, fisheries ecology and stock assessment, and aquaculture.
Grant and contract support for DIFS research comes from the public and private sectors.
