The Student Wellness Section would like to reassure and remind students of the available services and support that is available for any student who is affected in any way by the current difficulties experienced on campus. At times like this, we all need to ensure that we have emotional support from friends, peers and loved ones. Please find below some useful tips on how to look after yourselves in these times of high stress.
1. Get some exercise
Physical activity can help re...duce stress. Spend some time doing enjoyable physical activities.
2. Take timeout
Give yourself short breaks during times of the day that tend to be stressful. A few moments of quiet time might help you feel better prepared to handle what's ahead without getting overly stressed.
3. Use humour to release tension
Lightening up can help manage stress/anxiety. Use humour to help you face what's making you stressed and remember to have realistic expectations for the day.
4. Practice relaxation skills
Practice deep-breathing exercises, imagine a relaxing scene, or repeat a calming word or phrase, such as, "Take it easy." You might also listen to music, write in a journal or do a few yoga poses — whatever it takes to encourage relaxation.
5. Talking to friends/ loved ones
Talk to your friends in digs or res to support each other.
6. Know when to seek help
When all the above seems to not be helping do not hesitate to seek professional help.
