Filmfest 2005 Semester 2
August 16, 2005
By Stephen Buchanan
Acclaimed Films from Europe, Asia and Africa are presented by the School of Languages and the International Office every Tuesday in Eden Grove Red. Admission is free! Semester 2 programme now available online.
Prof. Francois Jacques, Head of the School of Languages:
"Following last year's very successful film festival, the School of Languages and the International Office are organising a similar event in 2005. Films from various traditions and languages will be shown, reflecting the different activities of the School and emphasising the role played by each language in the cultural life of the University. These films have been carefully selected as good examples of the art of the cinema and film-making in various countries and different traditions. We trust that you will enjoy them."
Marius Vermaak, Dean: International Office:
"I am proud to present the first semester programme of FilmFest 2005, a joint project of the International Office and the School of Languages. Internationalisation is the process of integrating an international dimension into the research, teaching and service functions of an institution of higher education. Rhodes offers the possibility of studying three important international languages: Dutch, French and German. Rhodes students and staff can enrich their own lives - and their degrees and CVs - with knowledge of another language and culture.
Films - in the original language - offer one of the best and most pleasant ways of entering a foreign way of life. The School of Languages has put together an outstanding programme of interesting films from Europe, Asia and Africa.
This is the first in, I hope, a series of projects: Internationalisation @ Home. Do enjoy this chance to experience the world right here on campus, in the familiar Eden Grove Red!"
