Erasmus Mundus
![]() |
Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobility higher education programme that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education, and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with other countries.
The programme provides support to HEIs interested in implementing joint programmes at postgraduate level (Action 1) or in setting-up inter-institutional cooperation partnerships between universities from Europe and specifically targeted countries (Action 2); scholarships to individual students, researchers and university staff who wish to study, research or teach for a certain period in a European university (Action 1 and Action 2); and funding for projects that endeavour to promote European higher education worldwide (Action 3).
Please look at the Erasmus Mundus website for Scholarships for students and academics.
In 2010, South African Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) formed part of three mobility programmes: ema2sa, SAPIENT and EUROSA. Last year, ten Rhodes University students were awarded scholarships, which afforded them opportunities to study in European Universities. They attended a pre-departure event in UCT in Cape Town.
