Armand Swart tells us about his 2012 Study Abroad Programme at the University of Leicester

Towards the end of my final year in South Africa I knew I was not yet ready to go onto postgraduate studies in Law, and felt I had missed out on the travelling experiences my gap year friends had earlier on. Applying for the Study Abroad Programme was the best decision I could have made. The programme gave me the opportunity to spend six months of an Honours degree in Leicester studying Law subjects, and another six months back home reading English Literature.

My study at Leicester has allowed me to take innovative subjects not available at my home university. I’ve been able to gain experience in Health Care Law, a burgeoning field in South Africa, and not yet a fully-fledged academic discipline. I have also completed a semester of Criminology, a subject seldom explored in most South African universities. The experience in both subjects, and my other two modules, has been enriching and educative. The lecturers at Leicester are experienced, knowledgeable and helpful. Not to mention that classes and tutorials are small and allow for hands on experience.
The programme has run smoothly for me and all the Study Abroad students I have met: the Study Abroad office is beyond efficient and any administrative hassles are handled in the nick of time.

Edinburgh and London. I enjoyed the National Galleries in both cities, saw Edinburgh’s majestic castle and experienced a West End Musical, a lifelong dream come true!
I would recommend the programme to any student wanting to travel, experience the United Kingdom or study at a first rate UK University. Leicester’s programme is truly the best in the country.
Thanks and Kind Regards
