Explore the honours specialisations at Africa’s leading Journalism school.
Taught by experienced practitioner academics, and plugged into the currents of modern journalism, the Honours programme produces graduates who find the best places in media across the African continent, or with conceptual and research skills for advanced study in the field.
Choose from one of our four Honours specialisation streams, with complementary combinations to make up a five-paper Honours Degree:
- Health Journalism: 3 papers
- Legal Journalism: 3 papers
- Economics Journalism: 3 papers
- Media Studies & Popular Culture: Representation, Identity & Social Change; Popular Film; Mobile Communication; Popular Media.
Each stream has an associated practical writing paper.
Honours students may also choose to do a research paper, or one paper in another department (subject to approval by JMS and the other department).
Rhodes University reserves the right not to offer one of the above-mentioned papers or specialisations if student numbers do not warrant it.
Admission requirements
A good Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline will be appropriate for applying for the Honours Degree.
