Economics Journalism
The Centre for Economics Journalism in Africa (CEJA) at Rhodes University offers a number of full time scholarships in Economics Journalism towards the completion of the Post-Graduate diploma in Journalism and Media Studies.
Reserve Bank: For commerce or economics graduates who want to explore a career in journalism. Candidates who have a first degree in economics, accounting or a related subject, or who will complete a first degree ithis year, are invited to apply.
Standard Bank: For working journalists who want to become business journalists or improve their knowledge of business journalism. Candidates who have journalistic experience and have a first degree are invited to apply.
Journalism and Media Studies
Percy Qoboza:
Media 24 sponsors a full bursary for students interested in New Media. The student will get the opportunity to work at City Press during June vacation. The student will be actively involved in New Media Lab projects during their studies to develop their digital and multimedia skills.
Convergence Partners:
This scholarship is granted by The Convergence Partners Foundation, in conjunction with The Lion Telecoms Trust. This scholarship is for a formerly disadvantaged South African who can demonstrate a strong interest in ICT, and the value of communicating this subject through the media. Female candidates are especially encouraged.
Aggrey Klaaste:
Sponsored jointly by The Sowetan /Sunday World and Rhodes University. The bursary will be awarded to a student that has participated in some or other way in school or campus media if available, or has written in her/his personal capacity; has an academic record which will indicate that the student will be able to cope with her/his workload is under 30 years of age; has been selected by the Editor of The Sowetan/Sunday World and the Head of Department, RU; will do her/his compulsory four week internship at the end of the course at The Sowetan/Sunday World in December of the specific year. If the student wants, and the newspaper can accommodate her/him over the winter holiday, the student can also work during this time at the newspaper;
