SABC2 will be featuring a marathon, 4 and a half hours of RUTV television output over the next 9 weeks. The work which is mostly the final year work for the B.Journalism students of 2008 is featured in the weekly Wednesday night slot "Student Reel". This is broadcast at 11.30pm on SABC2 in 30 minute chunks.
Among the pieces to be broadcast are four 24minute documentaries, several 5 minute individual inserts and a range of investigative and news pieces. We comprise the biggest output to be screened from any of the contributing institutions.
The full list of dates and content will be posted in the next week when we have the full schedule.
The newly established Creative Worx is an agency set up by JMS4 TV class of 2009.
This production team acts as a practice run for TV journalism students’ futures in the real world. More specifically, Creative Worx aims to create awareness of television journalism and of the JMS4 TV course in particular, as well as publishing and promoting the work they have produced. As a class they have chosen to take on this initiative in order to further their knowledge and skills beyond that of their primary academic assessment. In doing so, the class is building on opportunities for their futures.
A critical function of this agency is the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills, something that is not usually taught in a Humanities classroom. It is for this reason that Paul Hills, JMS4 TV 4 lecturer, has encouraged this initiative.
In taking on various projects, each member of the class occupies a role, for example advertising, finance or outreach manager, and together they work to achieve their aims. They have chosen to commit themselves to the communities around them, by not only offering their production skills to those in need, but also by means of their outreach programme.
Creative Worx looks forward to the year ahead and is excited to work with the public in whatever areas it may need, if Creative Worx feels it has the capacity.
