The South African Reserve Bank Centre for Economics Journalism needs a new director to lead them, could it be you? Here are the particulars for the vacancy:
The School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University is seeking to appoint a Director of the South African Reserve Bank Centre for Economics Journalism. The Centre aims to bring about improvement of the media coverage of economics, business and development in Africa through research, education and training, and engagement with media, business, government and society. The Director is primarily responsible for teaching and research in the Centre. This entails: designing the modules and teaching the part-time, two-year postgraduate diploma in economics journalism; teaching the economics intensive module for the general postgraduate diploma in journalism; designing and teaching short courses for journalists and designing and producing research on economics journalism; supervising (or co-supervising) postgraduate research in this area.
The Director will also manage the finances of the Centre, supervise any staff hired and maintain a good communicative, working relationship with the South African Reserve Bank, its major funder.
Publicising the work of the Centre and engaging with the media through events and articles is also a crucial part of the work.
The position is considered an integral part of the academic programme of the School, and the incumbent is expected to offer courses within the degrees administered by the School, participate in the intellectual life of the school and generate research that enhances the School’s postgraduate capacity and reputation.
Rhodes University offers two tracks for academic staff in the field of media: an academic track for those with postgraduate degrees and already-existing research careers and a track for those with substantial media industry experience.
