JMS Future Indaba
Amid the Media Tribunal and Protection of Information Bill debates, the Rhodes School of Journalism and Media studies (JMS), is preparing to send another wave of Journalism and Media practitioners into the industry.
The Alumni, Marketing and Events office based at the School is organising the annual Future Indaba, which is a careers fair for all those students who are about to enter the job market in 2011.
For the past two years (2008-2009) the Future Indaba has brought big industry players, such as Summit TV, SABC, Primedia, Avusa and Media24 to the Africa Media Matrix building, allowing students to interact with professionals from these media companies.
Jolandi Snyders, an organiser of the event, says: “This year’s Indaba has the potential to be the greatest yet.” The Indaba is held over two days in which companies have a chance to interact with final year students and enthusiastic first and second year students.
Running from the 15th to the 16th of September 2010, the Africa Media Matrix, which is home to the School, will be buzzing with enthusiastic students who are eager to learn about the job market and network with the people in the industry.
Not only will the students be getting first-hand advice from companies, but the students will walk away from this Careers Fair fully aware what each of the visiting companies is expecting from new graduates.
Big names such as the SABC, e.tv, Primedia, CNBC Africa, Media 24 and Avusa have already signed up to attend. This event also bridges the gap between the industry and the academic institution and gives companies and lecturers the opportunity to meet and share experiences with an impact on future teaching and curricula. Telkom is the official sponsor of this event.
