Internships
Grahamstown by Night
Aimed at members of designated groups (as defined by the Employment Equity Act), the purpose of
these internship programmes is to provide individuals with the opportunity to enhance their
knowledge and skills and to gain critical experience so that they are better placed to compete
successfully for higher level posts within the institution. Rhodes University provides the perfect
environment where theses outcomes can be achieved. Running since 2004, over 60 interns have participated in the programme with at least 75% of these interns finding permanent employment at Rhodes or other employers.
There are a variety of internship programmes:
- Administrative internships aimed at those with a post-matric qualification (recruitment for new interns takes place once a year)
- Graduate internships funded by the ETDP SETA – government staff development structure (recruitment takes place as when fund are provided by the SETA)
- Rhodes funded Graduate Internships
- Technical internships e.g. in catering, artisan areas (recruitment takes place once a year)
