World-class classical trio in PE performanceDate Released: Tue, 22 April 2014 12:20 +0200
The Nelson Mandela Metrolpolitan University department of music in collaboration with Rhodes University is hosting a performance by the internationally acclaimed Chameleon Trio tomorrow.
This "lunch hour concert" will be held free of charge at the NMMU South Campus auditorium (old UPE campus) at 1 pm. The trio members are Aisling Casey on oboe, Sarah Burnett on bassoon and Catherine Foxcroft on piano. Scottish-born Burnett, one of London's most successful and highly regarded wind players, is principal bassoon player with the Britten Sinfonia and the London Mozart Players.
Irish-born Casey is principal oboist in the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra and one of Amsterdam's most dynamic and sought-after oboists. The third member, South African-born pianist Foxcroft, is one of the country's finest pianists and a senior lecturer at Rhodes University. The concert is part of a reunion tour marking the 20-year anniversary of the trio's first concerts in Germany.
The group was established when the three met as students at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater in Hannover. Before moving to different countries to take up jobs as professional musicians, they performed to critical acclaim in Ireland, the Netherlands, the UK and South Africa.
They will perform solo, duo, and trio compositions by Beethoven, Poulenc, Ponchielli, Previn, Quantz, Rachmaninoff, and Schreck.
