Rhodes piano student to travel to Israel

The Rhodes University Music Department is pleased to announce that fourth year piano student, Peter Cartwright, was accepted to participate in a series of Master Classes in Israel in August. Cartwright currently studies piano with Mariel Ilusorio.

To be accepted, Cartwright sent a DVD of a live solo performance he played last year, as well as a CV of his musical achievements to date. Members of the faculty for the course screened the DVDs and CVs to select participants.

Cartwright will take lessons with Phillip Kawin, Professor at the Manhattan School of Music, and Asaf Zohar, former chair of the piano department at the Jerusalem School of Music and Dance. “I am very excited about this opportunity. It should help me develop my pianistic abilities, as well as general musicianship. It will also be a great opportunity to see some of Israel and experience the culture of the people,” said Cartwright.

Since its inauguration in 1992, the Tel-Hai International Piano Master Classes have earned a name and high esteem the world over for artistic integrity, dedicated work, uncompromising professional standards and the warm, informal atmosphere.

During the classes, the participants are encouraged, in addition to the intensive work with their teachers, to attend numerous public concerts.

The Master Classes, taking place from 1 to 20 August, will be hosted at Midreshet Sde Boker, an inspiring environment located in the magical region of Ramat HaNegev.
