Ivan Vladislavic comes to Rhodes

Internationally acclaimed and award-winning South African short story writer and novelist, Ivan Vladislavic, will be reading from a selection of his works at the English Department this Thursday (1 September).

As part of the South African Literature in Focus project, the English Department  has introduced a post-graduate course entitled South African Writers in Focus and Vladislavic is one of the authors that was selected for this intensive consideration.  He is also taught in other courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and he is the subject of research in the department.

With the help of the Research Office, the English Department was able to persuade Vladislavic to come to Rhodes where he will spend two days with the English Department, Wednesday 31 August and Thursday 1 September.

He will be reading from his work, participating in panel discussions and he will be interviewed by students of the department.  His presence at the Department this week will greatly enhance the students’ understanding of his work.

The public reading will take place at the English Department’s Common Room at 17h15.
