Law Ball
2010
The 23rd of September saw the Faculty don their tuxedos and dresses to gather at what can only be described as the most prestigious gala event of the year, the Annual Law Ball. The event was hosted by the Law Society of 2010.
The event once again maintained its calibre in the form of the keynote address from Justice Froneman who engaged and challenged the guests on numerous issues including, most importantly, access to justice.
The event proved to be a remarkable success, undoubtedly due to the contriubutions of not only the organisers but the jovial atmosphere created by all the guests.
2009
A most anticipated and well-attended occasion is the Annual Law Dinner and Dance, which is normally attended by law lecturers and students, as well as members of the Eastern Cape Judiciary, Bar and Side-Bar. It is customary at the Dinner to have a guest-speaker who delivers an address.
In the past such distinguished lawyers as Ms Justice van den Heever, Mr Justice Gubbay, Professors Kahn, and Dugard Haysom have delivered the keynote speech as Guests of Honour. This years (2009) keynote speech was delivered by Honourable Justice J Kriegler.
A lot of time and effort is therefore invested in making this night a roaring success. Apart from the above the Law Students Council has other functions such as cheese and wines and braais for members.
