Law Students Council
The Law Students’ Council is the governing body of the Rhodes Law Society as registered as a society with the Students’ Representative Council. The LSC has three broad objectives:
- to serve and represent all Law students by providing such services and functions for all law students as it from time to time decides are feasible
- to mediate between Law Students and the Faculty Board
- to facilitate, preserve and to enhance student /lecturer communication both formally and informally.
The LSC therefore is tasked with ensuring that healthy dialogue and effective communication exists between the Law Faculty Board and the students registered in the faculty as well as occasionally (or as need arises) coming up with social functions where staff and students of law can meet and communicate outside the formal lecture environment.
The LSC consists of five committee members elected by students registered in the Faculty of Law (and any such student shall also be eligible for election) such members being :
- the president
- secretary
- treasurer
- two editors of In Camera (a Law Faculty annual magazine)
- public relations officer
Since 1998 two people have been in charge of In Camera, given the vast amount of work and effort required to put the publication together. During the year the LSC runs a number of functions - social and otherwise. Among the more important of these functions are Law Careers Week, The Annual Law Dinner and producing and publishing In Camera.
Work on the LSC is interesting and rewarding. One gets into contact with very prominent people that one would otherwise not get to meet or communicate with! Viva LSC!
