Legal Practice Course
The Law Clinic is where the practical training component of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree takes place.
Students in their penultimate year of study are required to serve at the Legal Aid Clinic for one semester as part of the Legal Practice Course. During this time students are divided into groups of 3; two students who are registered for the legal practice student and one student who has already sat and passed the course.
The students register for a one hour commitment per week at the clinic where they consult with clients on the clinic premises, give advice and take on legal instruction. Each student is allocated approximately 3-6 clients whose cases they handle under the close supervision of an attorney.
Students play an important role in the clinic's ability to offer a high quality and wide service to the indigent population of Grahamstown.
