Off-campus access to the Research Databases
Off-campus access is available to authorized Rhodes users, provided they have registered at the Library for the current year. For off-campus access, you will need to provide your Rhodes borrower barcode NUMBER, which is the 8-digit number that appears on the reverse side of your Rhodes Library / Student / Staff card, and PIN to access these resources. (Set up a PIN under the Catalogue Option: Self-Service Login on OPAC).

The restricted databases which may be accessed off-campus, via the above method, are those next to which a yellow padlock icon appears.
Some databases may be accessed on-campus only due to publisher licensing restrictions. Examples hereof are LexisNexis Academic, Datastream and SciFinder Scholar. Staff (but unfortunately not students) can make use of the IT Division's VPN service to access these from off campus.
A third category of databases are password accessible. The login codes for these databases can be found on the Rhodes Intranet. When accessing this Intranet site from off-campus, you will be prompted to use your Novell login, which is the same as the login you use to access your Rhodes e-mail account. Please keep these login codes confidential! They are to be used by bona fide Rhodes staff and students only.
