Acquisitions
Consultation hours
Weekdays: 08h30 to 13h00 ; 14h00 to 17h00
Purpose
The Acquisitions Unit acquires material for the Main Library and the Departmental libraries. We aim to do this as quickly and efficiently as possible, ensuring that funds are available and are not misspent by duplication or processing of incorrect bibliographic information.
Procedures
Orders for books should be submitted via the online method whereby orders are submitted electronically. Departments that would like to use this form of ordering should contact the Faculty Librarian for that department.
As much information as possible should appear on each order. Full details of author, title, publisher, date, ISBN, price and format (print or electronic) enables us to process the request with greater speed and accuracy.
Bibliographic information
Publishers' catalogues and advertisements are sent to departments to aid their selection.
The following databases supply useful bibliographic information:
• Global Books in Print (Rhodes users only)
• Sabinet Online: Book Data (Rhodes users only)
• Blackwell's (prices in pounds sterling)
• Amazon.com (prices in US dollars)
• Alapage.com (prices in French francs)
• Kalahari.net
• BookFinder4u
