The Nelson Mandela Hall of Residence was built around the existing Stanley Kidd residence. For convenience during the building project, the buildings were numbered Stanley Kidd 1 to 10. Stanley Kidd X was opened for the first time in 2004. The name for this residence is Centenary House.

Nelson Mandela Hall was split in December 2008. Centenary House is now a proud member of Lilian Ngoyi Hall.

Centenary House has a reputation of being a great place to live while studying at Rhodes University, an environment for hard work and having fun, safely. Centenary House holds regular social functions, for example braai's, and invites guests to Centenary House at least once a semester.
