AMINA MOTALA

I recently attended the GIRA 2010 Conference on corporate governance, innovation, social and environmental responsibility at the ISCTE-Lisbon University Institute in Portugal. The Conference website can be accessed via the following link:

Upon the advice and encouragement of my supervisor Professor Lynette Louw, I submitted a paper based on my Master's research entitled ?The Corporate Social Responsibility of Selected Private Game Reserves in
the Eastern Cape, South Africa under theme 8, Sustainable Tourism.
The paper was accepted for presentation at the Conference (I have attached a summary of my research). This was an exciting opportunity and I was ecstatic that I had been chosen to present my research!

I was especially looking forward to the keynote speakers, namely:
- Andrew Kakabadse, Professor of International Management Development, Cranfield University
- Madhav Mehra, corporate guru, visionary and futuristic thinker & social entrepreneur
- Fiona Harvey, Financial Times Environment Correspondent I was most inspired by their presentations, and had the opportunity to meet with each of them.

I am so grateful for this opportunity. I learnt a great deal!
Sustainable development, global and local is a the forefront of academic and policy concerns. It was most encouraging to hear the various views and contributions towards improving business practises for the sake of stakeholders, especially the largest of all Planet Earth.
