Applied Geometry (AM3.3)
LECTURER: J Larena
Description
This course will explore the geometry of Minkowski spacetime. In particular, it will study in great details the Lorentz group and its structure.
Although the content of this course is motivated by physics, understanding the lectures does not require any advance knowledge of physics since all the physical notions encountered in the course are fully constructed from a very limited number of simple, first principles.
Topics
Axioms of Relativity. Non-Euclidean Geometry. Multilinear algebra. Geometry of Minkowski space-time. Spinor map. Riemann sphere and celestial sphere. Elements of Special Relativity.
Tutorials
ONE tutorial per week.
Tests/Exams
TWO class tests and ONE final examination.
