Title of research project:
An investigation into the implementation of the Singapore Mathematics Curriculum (SMC) in two schools in the Eastern Cape, South Africa
Project outline:
This research is a case study, considering a focus group of 6 teachers and the effects of the Singapore Mathematics Curriculum on their individual teaching practice. This research will entail working with selected practising, Foundation Phase teachers, who as part of the research group and are afforded a voice concerning their experiences.
The work done by Kilpatrick, Swafford and Findell (2001) on teacher proficiency will guide and inform my conceptual framework of this research and the focus will be on looking into how SMC is informing the teaching proficiency of selected South African teachers’.
