Provisional title of research project:

An investigation of the role of physical manipulatives in teaching and learning of measurement in Grade 8: a case study using surface area and volume.

Provisional project outline:

The goal of this study is to investigate the role of physical manipulatives in the teaching and learning of measurement in Grade 8. In particular this study will investigate the use of physical manipulatives in the teaching and learning of surface area and volume. Kilpatrick’s model of proficiency will be employed as the conceptual framework of analysis.

How the Research Links to the Chair:

The research contributes to the Chair's objectives of finding innovative solutions to teaching Mathematics by using accessible and appropriate resources and techniques.
